Soaring Towards Sustainable Aviation

Commercial aviation contributes 2-3% of global emissions. And that figure could triple if no action is taken. Aircraft require alternative greener fuels if we are to meet our net zero targets. One option could be hydrogen. The University of Bath is developing new materials and structures for hydrogen storage for aircraft. Its research spans molecular, material and structural scales.

This means that mathematicians, chemical scientists and engineers come together to develop and test parts. A holistic approach to research, in partnership with industry, is designed to accelerate the development of hydrogen aircraft. The UK Government plans to demonstrate a zero carbon emission aircraft by 2030, the University of Bath’s innovative research could help get us there.
